This scary incident has happened with my wife and kids. Its all because of god grace that ladies and kids are safe. This is very serious matter and We will not tolerate this negligence as this life threatening. This could have happened with anyone as all the tower lifts are in same condition. We always experience little shaky moment inside the lift while going upward/downwards however it should be smooth.
I urge MRWA to take this matter to the higher-ups on priority and assure that proper routine maintenance/check should be in place. I would suggest that members from the RWA team should regularly cross check the maintenance roster to make sure that it is happening.
Shall we have a meeting tomorrow or Sunday to discuss particularly how this matter should be handle?
As everyone knows we are already facing many day to day problems but such kind incidents can not be compromise. Everyone's safety is the top priority.

Jaspal Singh

Subject: [mahagunmascot] Accident in lift in Bettina tower
Hi All,
Today there was an accident in one of the lifts in Bettina tower. In afternoon today, the lift got stuck at 4ht floor and the door refused to close. At this moment, everyone onboard the lift came out of the lift and suddenly there was a huge sound as if something broke and the lift went upwards and something fell down from the fourth floor and landed in B2. There was a big thud and dust all around. The first impression of the ladies and the kids who were lucky enough to get out of the lift in time was that the lift itself fell into the basement. These ladies then rushed to the ground floor to see dust all around and the security guard all seated as if nothing has happened. They then called the maintenance office and they arrived in about 10 -15 minutes to assure the ladies that everything is fine and there is nothing to worry about. The matter was escalated and soon there were people from OTIS, CSK and MMRWA.
OTIS guys are saying that a big weight (rod) which was attached to the lift broke and it fell down from the fourth floor and the emergency brakes got activated and lift went upto the fifth floor and stopped there. I am not sure of technically what happened, but if something broke from a working lift and fell down I have all the reasons to be scared that it could have resulted in far more dangerous and serious accident. Luck was on our side today that the ladies and the kids came out of this lift in time (5 seconds to be precise) and nothing major happened otherwise god knows what could have happened today.
Few questions that comes to my mind:
- Are there any routine maintenance check ups of the lifts. If yes, where is it reported. OTIS guys today claimed that the monthly checkup of lifts are happening and is recorded but I have my serious doubts on this looking at the condition of our lifts (buttons not working, lights not working, gates getting stuck every now and then are some of the common problem in most of these lifts)
- Are we prepared enough for any emergency situations if at all it happens. For example, the security guard didnt knew what to do even though he heard a huge thud and could see dust all around. We have seen similar instances in the past as well.
- Is our maintenance agency, in its current form, capable and competent enough to manage this size of property/infrastructure?
Remember our society is not even 50% occupied. What will happen when we grow in numbers and there is more pressure on this infrastructure?
Thanks,
Gaurav
